Crosslake is located in Crow Wing County, Minnesota on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. Residents and visitors enjoy the community's up-north character and lakeside flavor with over 121 miles of shoreline.

The city covers thirty seven square miles with over one-third of this area covered by water. Crosslake is home to 1,893 permanent residents with 60% of the 2,477 housing units in seasonal use. There is a vibrant and growing business community in Crosslake to add to its charm.

The Whitefish Chain is the largest chain of lakes in the Brainerd /Crosslake area. The lakes included with this chain are Crosslake, Rush , Lower Hay, Bertha, Clamshell, Little Pine, Dagget, Hat, Loon, Island, Big Trout, Pig, and Upper and Lower White Fish. There is well over 14,000 acres of water between these lakes. The chain is a popular recreational spot in the summer and has heavy boat traffic. The water clarity varies between 6.5 feet and 10 feet. Maximum depth is 138 feet.

Fish include Black Crappie, Bluegill, Bowfin, Bullhead, Shiner, Redhorse, Sunfish, Whitefish, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Rock Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Tullibee, Walleye, White Sucker, Yellow Bullhead and Yellow Perch.

Whitefish Chain has multiple public accesses. Small bay south of Pine River inlet on west shore, on south shore of Pig Lake, on north shore of Clamshell Lake, on east shore of Crosslake near COE dam, on east shore of Big Trout lake, on the southwest end of Cross Lake, and on the south shore of Lower Hay Lake.
